I detoured north, mainly to see the Sphere. From 5 years of dome building, I still harbor a bit of circle madness. (Also, I saw tons of domes in the last few months, at Burning Man, and then all over the southwest — a dome renaissance.)
The Sphere is 366 feet high and 516 feet wide and has 64,000 LED panels. It cost 2.3 billion $. (See Wikipedia for tons of stats.) Average cost of tickets for musical events (like the Eagles or U2) is about $220. (I don’t get how people pay these prices for concerts.)
I stayed at The El Cortez, an old hotel/casino in the old downtown part of Vegas, room was $70. and took an Uber out to the Sphere. There’s a closed-off street where you can get these views (finagling my camera to shoot through cyclone fence).
Then I got some sushi for dinner, went back to the El Cortez, and walked around in old downtown. There’s a vibrancy in the streets. Reminded me of Times Square, but way more relaxed and with much larger graphics.
Las Vegas is on a roll right now.
Sex is everywhere, like these girls (above) having fun with mock S&M. I think guys like this were paying them them for a few minutes of naughtiness.
I never went to the Strip. Took off next morning for LA.
LOVE the Sphere videos! Thanks for sharing.
I have never seen anything like this. The sphere is giving me Hunger Games vibes, like they could be held inside? Did anyone else think that? It’s probably just my tired weird brain in overdrive.
