I'm looking at these structures through eyes watching the aftermath of wildfire, fearing that the old houses lost, many of the hundred-year-old former summer homes, will be replaced with soulless rectangular tract-style houses, stuccoed for fire resistance with that stodgy sand color that sends me into shrieking fits, and fitted with blank eyes for windows. But wouldn't that first house, the hip-roofed one, be gorgeous with metal siding? Not that metal siding alone guarantees anything other than an improved chance against fire.
