this is such a beautiful post! I wish my dad could have seen it, as someone who took the ferry across the gate to chauffeur in Mill Valley, and loved the tall ships!
I interviewd a New Zealander who sailed on the Pamir German Clipper, and I think he made it to San Francisco. The skipper was a Finn and there was a lot of daily work in the quiet of the ocean. The pay was not great and the last of the clipper ships were under crewed for financial reasons.
