I once spent some time in Sausalito caulking by hand an older 32 foot wooden boat; a double ender; I was lucky to be able to actually find original caulking materiel. I wish I had spent more time on boats when I lived out by Ocean Beach, but I was too busy chasing waves...

Timely aside: I just learned that the Del Monte Company has filed for bankruptcy. Growing up in the South Bay, we teenagers (and scores of moms and dads looking to supplement the family income) did temporary gigs during the tomato harvest at the Del Monte cannery in San Jose. It was grueling, but good money. I only did it once, but have lasting memories of the smell of cooking tomatoes that seemed to be everywhere in the Santa Clara Valley during those hot Summer weeks.

Super cool, Lloyd! The city of my birth, and I'm still just across the bay in Oakland. My dad was a sea- and ship-loving merchant marine. I'll check these out for sure.
